Dr Mia Zhang is a compassionate and experienced ophthalmologist specialising in cataract and glaucoma surgery.
She completed her specialist ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital, serving as Senior Registrar at Royal Prince Alfred and Bankstown Hospitals, where she refined her surgical skills in general ophthalmology and cataract procedures. She then undertook further subspecialty training in glaucoma and anterior segment surgery at New Zealand's largest tertiary eye hospital-Auckland University Hospital and Greenlane Clinical Centre - mastering awide range of advanced techniques including trabeculectomy, Paul and Baerveldt tube shunts, PreserFlo MicroShunt, iStent, Kahook Dual Blade, MIGS procedures, and laser treatments such as SLT, micropulse, and cyclodiode. She also performs cataract surgery using premium intraocular lenses, tailored to each patient's visual needs and lifestyle goals.
Dr Zhang holds specialist appointments at multiple public hospitals, including Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Liverpool Hospital, and contributes to ophthalmology registrar education and teaching.
An active researcher and educator, Dr Zhang has been awarded the Vision Research Foundation Scholarship (ANZGS) and the AUSCRS Advanced Trainee Scholarship. Her research has been presented at major conferences including RANZCO, APAO, ANZGS, AUSCRS, ARVO, and the World Glaucoma Congress, and published in respected journals such as Survey of Ophthalmology, Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science, and Clinical & Experimental Ophthalmology.
She is deeply committed to professional leadership and wellbeing. Dr Zhang served as Chair of the RANZCO Eye2Eye Editorial Board and co-chaired the RANZCO Health & Wellbeing Committee. Since 2016, she has volunteered with the Australian charity Vision of Islands, delivering clinical care and training to Pacific Island communities such as Tuvalu and Tonga.
Fluent in English and Mandarin, Dr Zhang is dedicated to delivering the best ophthalmic care with clarity and empathy.
